Dear Sunset Students,

Welcome to Sunset High School, a student-centered high school based on mutual respect that supports our pupils’ educational needs, fosters high expectations, and promotes academic achievement.  This is seen through the following avenues:

            *Smaller, direct instruction classes;

            *Opportunities for hands-on learning;

            *Independent Study;

            *Targeted Tutoring;

*Participation in school-wide programs such as our Experiential Learning Adventures, which includes an on-campus Redwood interpretative trail, hosting 3rd and 5th graders from around Del Norte County to discover our local wonders.

At Sunset High School, we teach students, NOT SUBJECTS.  Student learning is our main focus. We ask our students, “what are you learning?”, not “what are you doing?”  It is our priority to provide students with skills and resources that will enable you to continue your education through life, college, trade schools, or the armed services.

Sunset High School is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

Our Motto is “Pride in School---Pride in Self”, and we have only 3 rules:  Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible.  All of our actions and conduct, both for students and staff, can be addressed by those 3 rules.  Sunset High School has an incredible reputation for having pride and passion for our unique school, but more importantly, pride and passion for the people and relationships that are built here.  There is one very important factor that is essential to your whole outlook on education and life, and that one factor is YOU!

One of the most important lessons that you will take away from here is that you are responsible for all of your decisions, actions, and behaviors.  Your true character emerges when you’re faced with adversity.  When we acknowledge that we must not point fingers, or blame others for our misfortune, but realize that our life, our decisions, and our future direction are influenced by our own initiative, only then will we have grown.  We encourage on-going communication between our students, teachers, principal, and parents regarding any decisions and actions that will affect student achievement at Sunset High School.

At Sunset High School, each student, every day, will have opportunities to develop personal abilities, skills, potential, and a foundation for what is expected for future success in college, career, or when beginning a family of your own.

On behalf of the staff at Sunset High School, we welcome you and hope you accept the accountability to contribute to a successful and rewarding year for yourself and our school.

Sincerely,

Tony Fabricius, Principal
